In this fun, one-time, 45 min. class we will create a work of art using food while learning a couple of interesting facts about fish and the ocean.
At the end of the class, students will get to use their creativity to create an ocean scene using graham crackers as their canvas, icing, and Gold Fish crackers. Of course, we will enjoy our creation at the end. Yum!
Learning Goals:
Students will be able to recount 2 things they’ve learned about the ocean and fish.
Students will have the opportunity to use their creativity to explore using food as art.
Supplies required:
Graham crackers
White icing
Blue or green food coloring (Orange/yellow food coloring if student desires to incorporate the sun in the work.)
Gold Fish Crackers
Various colored sprinkles (optional)
Plastic knife or craft stick to mix and spread the icing.
Parents should have supplies, listed above, gathered prior to the start of class. This is an easy to prepare (purchasing simple supplies) and easy to follow class. (You may substitute supplies if necessary.) Students should not have food next to them during the lesson part of the class. We want to have some left for when we create! 🙂
I’ve taught this class as part of science curriculum, art, and after-school activities, online and in-person. It’s always been a hit!
