Simply Phonics -Online Classes -3X/Week

  • Ages:
    Preschool, Gradeschooler

This class is Part 1 of a 3 Part Curriculum.

This class meets 3X/Week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

This class may be a good fit for your child if:
They can orally blend words, if you say the sounds /c/ /a/ /t/ they are able to tell you the word is cat.
They know all their letter sounds and are ready to start blending sounds together to read words
They can hold pencil/marker and are able to form letters (we will be writing on whiteboards)
They are in Kindergarten and want extra blending practice
They are in First grade and struggling to blend CVC words

If so, this is the perfect class to help your child take their phonics skills to the next level (reading and writing CVC words) and build their reading confidence.

The class will be broken down into three major areas; word building, word writing, and reading fluency. Join at any time during the curriculum, the curriculum repeats after 9 weeks, so any missed lessons will be repeated.

This class requires letter tiles, a printout is provided at enrollment. If you do not have a printer, you may write the letters by hand onto paper and have your child use those to make words.

This class will meet 3x a week for 30 minutes and will introduce short vowel word patterns (word families). We will learn 2 new word families/patterns per week. Days 1 and 2 we will focus on one specific word family being taught that week. Day 3 we will review both word families.

For each lesson I will introduce a new word patterns/word family. As a group we will practice building words within that word family using letter tiles (a handout will be provided for students to use). After building each word with letter tiles, we will practice writing those words on our whiteboards. Last, we will play an interactive game to review what we’ve learned during class.

Why Teach Word Families/Word Patterns?

Learning to read can be a difficult task for younger students; this is because the English Language follows so many different patterns and rules that make it confusing. Word families provide children with a predictable pattern that makes learning a set of words easier for a beginning reader. They are an effective way to increase a student’s ability to spell and decode many new words and allow students to gain confidence in reading and writing.
