Bonjour! This is a class for students who have had immersion-style experience with the French language and are ready to learn the skills to begin reading. This class is taught entirely in French, so students should be able to have a basic conversation (listening and speaking) in French without help.
In order to take this class, students must:
Have taken some immersion French (3-4 months)
Be able to have a conversation in French with minimal help from English translations or an adult
Be able to say the alphabet in French
Know the majority of the French letter sounds
NOTE: if you are unsure if your student is ready, feel free to message me with your concerns or questions!
Each week, we will work on different letter sounds and phonic combinations. We will use some speaking exercises, but the focus will be on reading.
The first day of each week, we will be introduced to 2-3 phonetic sounds (either letters or letter combinations). We will look at how the sound can be written, the sound it makes, and see examples in words. We will also complete a short activity or game to practice. The second day we will look at a new sound set and read a book and complete activities with it to work on comprehension and phonological awareness. For the first 7 weeks, I will read the books to the class. The second 7 weeks, we will go through the book list again, and students will be asked to read. By the end of this class, students will have learned the French letter sounds and common letter combinations.
