Let’s Socialize: Among Us Club

  • Ages:
    Gradeschooler, Teen

In this weekly ongoing social club, students will meet new friends while playing Among Us in a safe, monitored server. Class time will go as follows each week:
1 – meet our group of players for this week
2 – review game rules and expectations
3 – play as many rounds of Among Us as time allows

Because this game focuses on collaborative practices and problem solving, this game is a fantastic opportunity for your learner to develop communication skills, appropriate argument skills with peers, as well as develop those deductive reasoning skills necessary in order to win the game!

Among Us is an online-based multiplayer social game that is available on phones, tablets, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and computers. Students will need 2 separate devices for this class. 1 to play the game on and the other to be part of the Zoom call. Parents are encouraged to check out Among Us before signing up for this class to ensure they find the game appropriate for their learner.

Please know that I will always be participating in games. This allows for me to monitor the game play experience as well as any on game conversations. We will not be using the Zoom chat features for this class, but will be encouraged to discuss verbally during appropriate times.

Please have the latest version of Among Us downloaded before class. Learners will need to have their chat type as “quick chat only” under the game play settings. This ensures that all learners can play and limits what can be said in game (must select from menu, cannot type what they would like). This setting is especially important for if we have to go to public gameplay as everyone will be prompted to have “Quick Chat Only” and this will ensure no inappropriate language can be used from outside players.

I teach all domains of science classes including Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth and Space Science. I enjoy incorporating engineering and STEM projects as I can in addition to valuable life skills such as discussion strategies, organizational tools, and identifying and managing emotions. I have over a decade of experience working with kids between 4 weeks and 17 years old. While my passion is science, I also offer math, social clubs, and circle time classes.

I am certified to teach middle school science and health/fitness courses. I have a Masters degree for teaching middle level science as well as a Bachelors degree for teaching secondary science. My Master’s Thesis was about how “Middle Schoolers Should Be S.T.R.E.A.M.ing” in which I studied the effectiveness of integrating Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Art, and Math in middle school classrooms.

My goal is to get every student I meet excited about learning science - No matter their age! STEM fields are taking over our world and science teaches us the skills necessary to thrive in these fields such as analyzing, interpreting, and applying information. I strive to increase students’ curiosity and passion for STEM/STREAM through my own fascination of the field.

Some fun things about me are:
- I am learning the science behind making my very own teas
- I am obsessed with Yellowstone National Park
- I have 2 cats: Azlan (3 legged cat who knows tricks) and Kevin (4 legged kitty who thinks he’s a dog)

Please message me if you have questions, suggestions, or requests. I look forward to seeing you in class!

- Ms. Brooke
